Raison d'être: stewed rhubarb




Late May: rhubarb. Stewed slowly with honey, vanilla, a dash of orange juice, a titch of cinnamon. Sublime.

My mother always liked to fix stewed rhubarb for my kids and me when we visited her in WA State. Nice memories.

I love stewed rhubarb! It used to be a very common dish here on the prairies back in the days of the dinosaurs when I was young. But nowadays you don't encounter it as much. Too many other choices are now easily available.
